While brick and mortar retail business owners may have experience a slow down in their processing volume compared to May, they are still currently processing more than they were at this time last year. In fact according to First Data's SpendTrends credit card processing volume is up 3.9 percent compared to the previous June, which was up over 8 percent compared to 2012. Debit and Pin Debit transaction volume growth were both up2 and 3.3 percent respectively compared to their 2013 numbers.

One item for merchants to be aware of is that credit card volume growth has outpaced debit and pin debit growth in 9 out of the past 12 months, an encouraging trend representing a likely increase in consumer confidence as the economy continues to rebound from 2008.
